The Student Paper Award aims to recognize high quality student articles published in the fields of Geography, Geospatial Technologies, and Environmental Sciences. At least one award will be given this year, with a maximum amount of $500 per awardee.

Eligibility 

  1. KAGES membership valid at the time of application
  2. Applicants must be full-time graduate or undergraduate students in colleges/universities in North America.
  3. Former recipients of this award may re-apply after two years have passed since the award ceremony; namely, those who have received the award in the past two years are not allowed to join the current round of competition.

Application material 

  1. KAGES Student Paper Award Application form: 2016_KAGES_paper_scholarship_application
  2. 1-page curriculum vitae
  3. An article published or manuscript under review/revision for publication in a peer-reviewed journal in the field in calendar years 2014-2016. The applicant must be a single or first author of the article.
  4. A 1-page cover letter
  5. At least one letter of recommendation from an academic advisor or equivalent stating the contribution of the applicant for the project (Please arrange a letter to support@kages.org)

Application due date: 1/March/2016
Scholarship award notification: no later than 21/March/2016
Scholarship award ceremony: 2016 KAGES Annual Meeting, Thursday, 31 March (exact time and location, TBA)

Submission: Submit the application materials according to the instruction on the KAGES Web site (http://www.kages.org/season2/?p=606). Make sure that you log in to the Web site using your ID and password that you had received in the email from support@kages.org before you begin the submission process, and contact support@kages.org for assistance. Once you upload all the materials on the Web site, choose “Visibility” option as “Password Protected“. 2016 KAGES Sim Student Travel Award

  1. Overview

Dr. Sim, Sun Hui is currently a faculty member in the Geography Department at the University of North Alabama. Through her generous sponsorship, “Sim Student Travel Award” was established in 2010 to provide financial assistance to graduate students in the research field of Geography, Geospatial Technologies and Environmental Sciences.  This scholarship is particularly designed to help meet the costs of travel to the Annual Meetings of the Association of American Geographers. This award is for supporting the work of students who implement GIS/RS/Geospatial techniques into his/her research.

    • KAGES membership
    • Scholarship is open to South Koreans and Korean-Americans.
    • Applicants must be full-time graduate or undergraduate students in colleges/universities in North America.
    • Applicants must present his/her research at the Annual Meeting of the Association of American Geographers.
    • Former Sim Student Travel Award recipients may re-apply if they did not apply in the past two rounds while maintaining membership.
    • Recipients should be present at the annual KAGES meeting to receive awards.

Call for Papers: Special issue on “Big Data and Geographic Information”

The International Journal of Geospatial and Environmental Research (IJGER, Editor Dr. Changjoo Kim) is an open-access, peer-reviewed international journal published on behalf of Korea-America Association for Geospatial and Environmental Sciences. IJGER provides a forum for discussion among researchers in all fields of geography, both human and physical, and environmental research that has an explicit spatial dimension (http://dc.uwm.edu/ijger/). It places particular emphasis on development and applications of geospatial technologies, such as geographic information system, remote sensing, and spatial analysis.

 

The Editors invite submission of papers that can be considered for inclusion in the special issue of IJGER, which is scheduled to be published by May 2016.

 

Recently, Big Data opened up for new insights on geographic information and technologies. We invite original research papers on theoretical developments and applications demonstrating the use of Big Data as well as tools and technologies of Big Data services.

 

The potential research topics for this special issue include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Theoretical developments and knowledge discovery with Big Data
  • Big Data in geospatial and environmental sciences
  • Measurement, analysis and methodological questions of Big Data
  • Big Data infrastructure
