Greetings from President Sunhui (Sunny) Sim

Sunny_re2

Dear KAGES members,

Greetings.  My name is Sunhui (Sunny) Sim and I am the President of KAGES for the academic year 2017-2018. It is my utmost pleasure to welcome all members. I am glad that I have been a part of KAGES’ growth since I joined as a KAGES board member in 2011. Our flagship journal, IJGER (International Journal of Geospatial and Environmental Research, http://dc.uwm.edu/ijger/) has provided a forum for discussion among researchers in geography and related fields since 2014. KAGES awarded four scholarships this year, which included the KAUPA Student Award, the KGS Student Award, the KGS-KSEA Student Award and the Sim Travel Award. I appreciate all the members and sponsors who made these scholarships possible.

The KAGES board and I would like to focus on three missions this year:  1) Promoting KAGES membership by using social media as well as the KAGES website (www.kages.org), providing student-faculty mentoring services, and assisting professional development opportunities between members, 2) Further supporting  IJGER by promoting special issues of IJGER with members’ expertise areas, and 3) Continuing to advance  scholarly exchange about East Asia-related issues among  members.

KAGES is focused on staying ahead of the many challenges this year. We would appreciate your continued support and participation of the various KAGES missions and programs. Please do not hesitate to contact me at ssim@una.edu if you have any idea for KAGES.

Sincerely,
Sunhui (Sunny) Sim
